Can you open the second temperature range for Ex models?

Can you unlock the MSX option for Exx models?
Yes, we can open the MSX option on the 1st generation of Exx cameras.
FLIR MSX (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) adds visible light details to thermal images in real time for greater clarity, embedding edge and outline detail.
Are there any differences in hardware «from the box»?
There are no functional differences in hardware of upgradable thermal imaging cameras. All restrictions are imposed by software and can be unlocked by the upgrade.
Is there any risk that the upgrade will be lost?
There is no risk that your thermal camera will be flashed back by itself. It is physically impossible. The upgrade may be lost only if you update camera to a newer firmware via FLIR Tools.
Will the upgrade void the warranty?
The manufacturer doesn’t welcome interference in the internal software of the camera, however, if you need to send camera to service, it is possible to return the original software back as we always make a backup copy of the original files.
Why every thermographer should upgrade from FLIR E4 to E8 mod?
The biggest limitation of the FLIR E4 is its 80×60 IR resolution – far too low for detailed diagnostics. After the FLIR E4 upgrade to E8, your E4 will output 320×240 thermal images. Without this upgrade, you risk missing critical faults due to pixelation and poor detail. While the stock E4 has decent sensitivity (<0.15°C), the E8 mod improves thermal clarity.
A brand-new FLIR E8 costs 3-4x more than an E4, but the FLIR E4 upgrade to E8 gives you nearly identical performance for free (or at minimal cost). For inspectors on a budget, this is the smartest way to upgrade.
